I've had three owls today from parents concerned about whether in fact Auror Crouch is trolling Hogwarts with the intent of seducing impressionable young girls.

From what I understand, of those three, one is the parent of a girl who is anything but innocent and impressionable and another is the parent of a son. I do believe they wrote to all the governors -- Lucius? Did you get your own set of messages?

Barty, kindly tell me that there is NO fire behind the vast cloud of smoke here. Is ANY of it true? I've no concerns about the alleged engagement (!) but DID you in fact send the lass flowers? To what earthly end?

I'm inclined to let Minerva handle the responses but surely these parents don't expect her to personally censor all incoming students' owl post.

I've been out at one of the more troublesome camps all day but seeing this, I checked with Hooper and indeed, there are a parliament of owls awaiting my attention - though he had the rare wherewithal to open the Howler.

Judging from Narcissa's reaction to this affair, at least what I could make out around her laughter last evening, our young friend did, indeed, send roses. The colour was an unfortunate misunderstanding. Barty, she said she was sending a book. Have you found it useful?

More to the point, have you undertaken to make sure Our Lord has paid less mind to the chatterings of adolescents than their parents? Like Dominic, I am sure He will give the incident no credence but - in light of His decision regarding your petition to wed Ms Drumgoole, He may welcome your personal explanation before any nonsense reaches Him.

Bella, too, may wish recompense since this story has taken the fire out of the Floo, it seems, from the Fwooper campaign.

The book arrived, yes. I'm certain it is the definitive resource on its subject. Whether it will prove needful is another question altogether.

Am in the field today, as well. Feel certain Our Lord will make His wishes known if He has concerns, but I appreciate your wisdom on the matter.

Have no idea where the Fwooper project stands. I have every confidence that it is in capable hands and will come to fruition according to whatever schedule Bella or Starling have set.

The intent is to have it out early next week but given the number of wands in the cauldron here it's hard to say.

After this one I suggested an entry offering up a stew of oleander, castor beans,and rhubarb leaves as a foolproof potion of invincibility when consumed by any muggle or muggleborn, but I'm told it might 'hurt credibility' and that I need to think in the long term.

Of course I sent her flowers as a belated acknowledgment of her having portrayed me in that theatrical nonsense. Apparently my neglect of her efforts led her to paroxysms of worry. The flowers went out with a card specifying that they were in respect of her service to the Protectorate.

Nothing remotely romantic about it.
