Tosha, I'm not sure you would have known about this as you were still abroad at the time; Higgs worked under me, for a time, in Communications. He was sacked with prejudice after leaking confidential information in private messages; someone's personal scandal wound up in a gossip magazine because he couldn't keep his pathetic mouth shut.

Higgs demonstrated rather conclusively that he was not worthy of trust or confidence. I think --

Have been hearing bits and pieces all day.

He must have some reason for adding them all - has there been no word of unrest anywhere? No intelligence regarding a threat to the Protectorate?

Perhaps the intention for him (and McLaggan, if it comes to that) is as a new ... toy. Someone He can reshape without fear that we His loyal might ... misinterpret the process as a threat.

You do realise it was three years ago this week that Regulus disappeared. Our Lord may long for another pet.

I can only hope He has greater purpose. I cannot see any other reason why someone so patently unsuitable should be called to service.

My first thought would be Him gearing up to take His cause outside these shores to conquer, rather than to negotiate -- it could explain why He did not appoint someone in my stead as ambassador at large -- but I cannot imagine he would not share that with us in advance.
